The Holly Tree (Ilex quifolium) is a medium-sized evergreen tree, slow-growing when young, with dark, glossy green, undulate and usually strongly spiny leaves. This variety has yellow edging to the leaves.  Small, dull white flowers in spring are followed by bright red berries, on pollinated female plants.
Native to the UK they cope well in most planting situations.

If you're hoping to keep some Holly branches to use as Christmas decorations, try cutting off a few stems in early to mid-December and keeping them in a bucket of water in a cool place - otherwise, there's a strong chance the birds will get to the berries before you do! Just make sure to lay out some alternative food for the birds to eat.
